On Tuesday, May 16th Simonstown welcomed 100 4th class girls from our local link schools (Scoil Naomh Eoin, St Oliver Plunkett NS, St Paul’s NS, and Ard Rí Community NS) to our pitches for a fun football blitz.

It was a real festival of football as teams were composed of players from the four schools, so it was a great opportunity for the girls to form new friendships! There were great skills on display as the girls played four games, and the bright sunshine that greeted us added to the enjoyment. A special well done to those girls that were trying football for the first time, you were all brilliant!

Crucial to the success of the day was the great job our young whistlers from the schools’ sixth classes did in refereeing the matches with great skill, care, and respect.

A huge thanks to the teachers from the four participating schools that helped with the organization of the event and offered great support to the players. A shout out also to our dedicated coaches and adult players that helped to manage the teams and imparted their love and knowledge of the game to the girls.

We were also delighted to be joined on the day by Niamh Lister and Emma Cassidy from the Simonstown ladies’ senior team who presented each of the girls with a club medal to mark their great play. Niamh and Emma also chatted to the girls about their positive experiences of playing football and spoke about the lifelong friendships that can develop through football and sport in general. Thanks also to the club for organising the medals, drinks and snacks for the players.

Next Thursday, May 25th is the boys’ turn! We look forward to another action packed, fun filled blitz and welcoming all the 4th class boys from Scoil Naomh Eoin, St Oliver Plunkett NS, St Paul’s NS, and Ard Rí Community NS to Simonstown.
