David Kavanagh pointed in the first minute for the Gaels after a fine run and setup by Briain Conlon. Dunboyne adapted better to the wet and miserable conditions and raced into a 1—4 to 0—1 lead by the sixteenth minute. The conditions played a major part in Dunboyne's goal in 5 minutes. Simonstown rallied and Michael Gavin showed from centre-back as he fisted over in the 18th minute. A free from Shane McEnery and a great point after a storming run by Briain Conlon left just a goal difference at half time 0—4 to 1—4.
Early in the second half, Kavanagh converted a well-fielded mark while Tadgh Hanrahan and Aaron Farrelly had points from play in 13th and 14th minutes to level the game 0—7 to 1—4. David McKeever making a return after injury split the posts to put Simons in front for first time with 20 minutes gone. Sean Conlon stretched the lead to 3 with a brace of well-taken points in the 23rd and 25th minutes of the second half. Dunboyne went on an all-out attack and after having not scored for over 40 minutes added 3 points in 26th(f),28, and 30th minutes to level the game and share the Div 1 league points on the score 0—10 to 1—7. Simonstown had eight (8) different players on the scoresheet.
Another young man Conor Staunton made his Senior team debut and Luke Caffrey made a welcome return to action after injury.
