Good team play enabled Simonstown to lead by 0—4 to 0-2 after 20 minutes of an entertaining game on Trims main pitch on a Spring like Sunday morning.
Shane McEnery, David Kavanagh, Aaron Farrelly and Kyle McEvoy were all on target from play. Shane Kavanagh surged forward found Frankie Cullen with a good pass and he finish to the net. Frankie tapped over the bar a minute later . Peter Duffy landed a monster point from 45 metres . At the break Simonstown were deserving leaders by 1—6 to 0—4.
Shane McEnery got second half off to flying start with 2 points from play in three minutes.
Mark Farrell with a defence splitting pass found Aaron Farrelly racing in on goal and he blasted to the net. Frankie Cullen from corner flag lobbed a high ball into goal mouth area where a fine catch by Jack Melia who turned and shot to the net. Melia added a point two minutes later. On 20mins Eoghan Gough entered the fray and what an impact he made. David Kavanagh and our first Keegan Cup Captain Joe completed the scoring. A very pleasing aspect of the game was the continued improvement of our young players in adapting to the rigours of adult football.
A welcome return to Ben Hoey who has had a frustrating time with injury.
