Simonstown..........2-18
St Colmcille's......0-7
Simonstown's 'seconds' booked a place in the Premier Division Two semi-finals with an emphatic win over St Colmcille's in Simonstown on Thursday night.
Once again a fast start made all the difference, just as it did in Summerhill in the previous match as Luke Caffrey and Chris O'Neill ran in goals prior to the first water break when they led by 2-3 to 0-0.
With Michael Gavin back in action and commanding at centre-back and Tadhg Hanrahan and Edward Nash dominating midfield the home side had the perfect platform and they exploited it with some fine movement between the forwards that really should have yielded more goals.
By half-time the game was well over with Simonstown hitting eight second quarter points for a 2-11 to 0-1 lead.
Eoghan Gough, Caffrey and O'Neill tormented the visiting defence with O'Neill and Caffrey both hitting 1-3 from play.
Mark Farrell also showed unerring accuracy to hit three points.
Gough could have had at least two second half goals and St Colmcille's did get back into it as Simonstown were unable to keep up the relentless pace of the first half.
But it was a fifth win of the campaign for a young team that has continued to improve with each outing.
The final game of the group is against Ratoath who have also qualified, along with Navan O'Mahony's and most likely Summerhill.
