Simonstown have all but assured their place in the Feis Cup semi-finals with a 24-point win over an understrength Na Fianna side in Enfield on Wednesday night.

From the moment Sean Tobin swung over a point from the sideline off his right from the opening attack, the visitors were always on the front foot and had the points effectively wrapped up by the first water break with goals from Niall Kane (pictured) and Padraic McKeever putting them 2-3 to 0-2 ahead.

By the interval, McKeever had added a second goal and the lead had stretched to 11 points, 3-6 to 0-4.

Simonstown lost Brian McGrath to a knee injury but Rory Connor drove the team relentlessly from half-back while Tobin kept his good form up with seven points, adding another 45 to bring to six the number he has now converted in this campaign.

Simonstown introduced Luke Caffrey and Tadhg Hanrahan, minors last year, for their senior debuts and they both made an impact with Caffrey getting one of two second half goals.

The Gaels outscored Na Fianna by 1-7 to 1-1 in the third quarter and held the home side scoreless in the last quarter as another 1-4 was added without reply.

Simonstown are now joint top on 10 points with Wolfe Tones who are next up in the final round on Wednesday night next in Simonstown (7.45).

Seneschalstown and Skryne are on six points and, like Wolfe Tones, they have a game more played than Simonstown who are still waiting to see if that will be refixed or whether the points go to Simonstown.
