Simonstown........4-19
Na Fianna.........2-8
Simonstown got their Premier Division Two campaign off to a winning start with a comprehensive win over Na Fianna at home on Saturday evening.
Having beaten Na Fianna in last year's championship, Simonstown were always favourites to follow up and when Michael Gavin goaled for the team to lead by 1-5 to 1-3 at the first water break they were well on their way.
Management were able to field senior players who have been involved in the ongoing Feis Cup campaign as the club had to ringfence 13 players beforehand who can't play at this level.
That meant Mark Gardiner, who scored two points from centre-back, Andrew Kearney, Sean Conlon, and Mark Devlin, who have all been regular senior starters, could feature here.
By the interval Simonstown had extended their lead to 1-11 to 1-6 and they enjoyed their best spell in the third quarter when they added a further 1-6, Mark Farrell getting the second goal, to lead by 2-17 to 1-7 at the third water break.
Further goals from Shane Kavanagh and James Heaney helped the home team to capitalise on their dominance. Both Na Fianna goals were converted penalties.
