Simonstown .........1-14

St Colmcille's......2-10

Simonstown's 100 per cent 2021 Feis Cup record remains in tact but only after they came out on the right side of a tight battle with St Colmcille's.

Following on from wins in the competition over Ratoath and Skryne, the home side made a strong start and were 0-6 to 0-2 ahead with Padraig McKeever (pictured) and Sean Tobin both in fine form while Andrew Kearney kept up his scoring touch with a further two first half points.

But as rain fell, St Colmcille's found their footing and Ben Brennan and Graham Reilly were prominent as they got back into it. By the 21st minute they landed their first goal for parity, 1-4 to 0-7.

St Colmcille's pushed on by a further two points before McKeever finished a well worked Simonstown move at the other end for his fourth point but the visitors took a 1-7 to 0-8 lead at half-time and got a further lift when they caught Simonstown napping with a quickly-taken free from close range for a five-point lead just after the restart.

That left Simonstown with a hill to climb but they brought it back to three with points from McKeever from a free, Rory Connor and Tobin while substitute Aaron Chincilla had a goal chance after a strong run by Sean Conlon.

St Colmcille's broke home momentum to go 2-9 to 0-11 clear but Simonstown kept pressing and Tobin, with the first of two converted 45s, restored the deficit to three by the second water break after Conor Sheridan's shot had been turned out.

A converted McKeever free nudged Simonstown that bit closer as experience began to tell and another substitute Nicky O'Brien weaved his way into position to set up Josh Carolan to crash home a 53rd minute goal for the lead once more.

Tobin stretched it again with a second 45 and they were able to manage the game from there though 'Cilles threatened again and it took some resilient defending to keep them at bay in the closing stages.

Simonstown's next game in the competition is away to Seneschalstown on Wednesday next at 7.45.
