With a place in the knockout stages of the championship already secured Simonstown took to the field in Pilltown to face St Colmcilles with referee Angela Gallagher throwing in the ball on a warm sunny day near the beach in East Meath.
Simonstown got off to a flyer with 1-2 on the board, the goal coming from a good team move finished by Emma Brogan. St colmcilles rallied and kicked over the next two scores before a fortuitous goal got them to within one of the visitors. Further points by Laura McEnery and Aoife Farrell left the score at half time 1-6 to 1-4.
St Colmcilles started the second half with intent and the sides were level after five minutes with two pointed efforts. Simonstown then went on to kick the next four points, three from Ailbhe McHugh and one from substitute Chloe Caffrey. St Colmcilles, scoreless for the previous 18 minutes received a lifeline with a goal on 26 minutes however Simonstown controlled the ball for the remaining 5 minutes scoring a last kick of the game free by Mia Brady to win by two points. Simonstown ladies will know they have much to improve on ahead of a home semi final vs the winners of Rathoath and St Ultans.
