Simonstown 2—15 Wolfe Tones 0—9
This Feis Cup Semi -Final clash of near neighbours Simonstown Gaels and Wolfe Tones in Simonstown on Tuesday night saw the Gaels advance to the Final where they meet Donaghmore/Ashbourne who had accounted for St.Colmcilles in the other semi-final.
There was a scoring burst in the early minutes of this game which was played in mild dry spring like conditions. Tones pointed from the throw after 30 seconds. Ben Hoey was on target for the hosts with two points (1f). A quickly taken free by Luke Caffrey after he was fouled sent Briain Conlon on his way and he blasted to the visitors net.David McKeever then fired over and Simons led by 1—3 to 0—1 after five minutes. Another two frees by Hoey and Padraig McKeever were added before the returning Sean Tobin put his name on the score sheet with a fine effort. Two more McKeever points (1f) before Luke Caffrey split the posts put Simons into a 1—9 to 0—4 lead with twenty eight minutes gone. Brian McGrath sent in a probing ball which Luke Caffrey won under duress and he set up Tobin whose shot hit the butt of the post and rebounded for Padraig McKeever drive a ground shot to the net. Simonstown went into dressing room at the break leading 2--9 to 0—5.
The second half saw defences on top. Padraig McKeever added two points from play while Ben Hoey slotted over two from play to leave the Navan men leading 2—1 1 to 0—7 after 22 second half minutes. Shane McEnery and Ruairi Brady added further points from play as Simonstown ran out winners and into the Feis Cup final with the scoreline reading Simons 2—15 to 0—9. Wolfe
Tones were short players who are on the County Panel. A good display from a youthfull Simonstown team.
