Simonstown Gaels GFC is deeply saddened by the tragic accident along the River Boyne, Navan in the early hours of Saturday 23rd December 2023, involving one of our Club Members & Coach Sean Farrelly.

Meath River Rescue continue to lead the search to bring Sean home with extensive support from the Meath Civil Defence, An Garda Síochána and a number of support services from far and wide. 

Thank you sincerely to the Meath River Rescue, Boyne Fishermens Rescue & Recovery, The Garda Síochána and Meath Civil Defence as well as several other support services for all their time and amazing work to date. To the community, thank you for providing tremendous support to Sean’s family, the rescue services and for your continued support in the search operation. This reflects the esteem in which Sean is held amongst his friends and in the community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sean’s wife Karen and their three children,  Aaron, Thomas and Abigail, his parents Noreen and Sean, sister Nicole and brother Keith together with the extended family and all Sean’s friends at this very challenging time. 

We understand that this is a very difficult time. Therefore, if you would like to connect with the community and help in the search for Sean, there are groups meeting daily at 9:30am and 1:30pm in the Ramparts, Navan. A WhatsApp group has been set up to share information daily in the continued search for Sean. If you wish to be added to this group, please text 086-3340746 with your name.

If you are out walking along the River Boyne, please keep Sean in your mind.  Sean was last seen wearing a Black & Maroon zippy, Maroon Jumper, Blue Jeans and white runners when he went missing.

If there is any further update on the rescue operation, it will be communicated through social media. For now, our thoughts and prayers are with Sean and his family as we hope and pray for a successful result from the extensive search underway.
